Art mirrors life—or is it the reverse? For Brian and Kate, reality and fiction spin a complicated web in my new story, “Wildwood Nights: The Prologue.” Just after Kate’s infidelity nearly wrecks their marriage, her illness forces them into an uneasy truce at their beach house on the Gulf of Mexico.
Amid the fall solstice and the annual appearance of the dragonflies, Kate recovers from surgery while Brian tries to save his writing career with a new novel. Like the characters in in Wildwood Beach, the fictitious town where the book takes place, the two of them seem to have very different feelings about their future.
