A few days ago I invited you (yes, YOU. The whole Internet) to join me in “Blues by Committee.” For those of you who actually have lives away from Facebook: “I’m going to give y’all the first line of a blues song that’s just begging to be written and you can add your own lines or verses! First line (repeat x 2): “Well I got a binder full of women / And I still can’t get no fun.”
I’m pleased to say that you, the blues-and-satire-loving public, has responded! This works! So here, for the first (and last) time anywhere, is our collaboration. It took some work on my part (and J, just for future reference, there aren’t too many English words that rhyme with “citizens”). But every contribution I received is in this song!
Is it up there with “Rock Me Baby,” “Dust My Broom” etc? Naw, but it might give “Mutt Romney Blues” a run for the money. Dig it!
Binder Full of Women Blues
Well, I got a binder full of women and I still can’t get no fun,
Yeah, I got me a binder full of women and I still can’t get no fun,
Used that line in public and now my career is done.
Well, my real name is Willard but these days I’m just Mitt’n,
Yeah, my real name is Willard but these days I’m just Mitt’n,
I won’t hire me any women, ’cause they all just second class citizens (see what I mean?)
Well, I’m up ten points in Georgia, but I’m in a natch’l (natural) rage,
Lawd, I’m up ten points in Georgia, still I’m in that natch’l rage,
I talked that binder business, and it backfired on a national stage.
Now I’m rollin’ through Ohio, my opinions in a sheaf,
Yeah, I’m blowin’ through Toledo, got all my opinions in a sheaf,
I met a woman in a binder, but then I had to leaf.
